Explore the Endless Possibilities of Chalk Paint™
... a unique decorative paint by Annie Sloan for furniture, walls, paint effects
....and so much more.!
Red Living became a stockist for Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan in May 2013. Owner, Anthony McCloskey, had been painting and refurbishing furniture for over 30 years, when he started to hear a lot of buzz about something called Chalk Paint™. He decided to see what all of the hype was about, and began experimenting with Chalk Paint™ in his studio in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.
Needless to say, Tony was impressed that the claims he had been hearing about Chalk Paint™ were true; the colours were gorgeous, coverage was amazing, and he could paint virtually anything without priming, sanding, or prepping. It didn't take Tony long to realize he wanted to be a part of Annie Sloan's decorative revolution.
What is Chalk Paint™?
Annie Sloan developed Chalk Paint™ in 1990 when there was no paint available with the properties that she was looking for. Her end product was a pigment-rich paint that was safe, easy to use, and had a matte - almost - chalky finish. It is an incredibly versatile paint that can be used to create an endless array of finishes and techniques and is arguably the world's best decorative paint.
What we really love about Chalk Paint™:
- It sticks to virtually any surface - taking the prep work out of starting your project
- It has amazing, rich-pigmented coverage in a gorgeous line of colours
- It is made using pure pigments - meaning you can mix colours as you would any artist paint to create any range of colour your heart desires.
- Can be used inside or outside
- Can easily be distressed to create antique finishes
- Can be used to create washes and dyes (yes! even for fabrics)
- Is environmentally friendly with low VOC's and virtually no odour
- And so much more! (Honestly, there's just too many things we love about Chalk Paint™ to list them all)
About Annie Sloan Soft Waxes:
Annie Sloan developed the Soft Waxes to bond with Chalk Paint™ and add the finishing touch to your project. Giving you a beautiful mellow finish, It creates a protective layer on top of your Chalk Paint™. Soft Wax can also be used to create decorative finishes and patinas when layered together and you can buff satin to glossy to create your desired sheen.
How to Use Soft Wax
Waxing should be easy, it shouldn't feel like a lot of work. Most people want to use too much wax in the beginning. We suggest brushing or wiping a small amount of Clear Wax onto your piece, then wiping away the excess wax with a clean, lint-free cloth.
Don't overwork the wax - simply wipe off the excess using very little pressure. Work in small sections so that you can keep track of where you've waxed and where you haven't.
Less is more! Your project should not feel sticky, wet, or tacky after your finished waxing. Come back a day later to buff with a soft cloth or buffing brush to create your desired sheen.
Dark Wax is added on top of a layer of Clear Wax to create an aged look. You can work the Dark Wax using the same technique as your Clear Wax. More information on wax techniques can be found in our FAQ section.
This is a very brief introduction to using wax - book a workshop to learn more.
